Start of NHL Season 2017-18

It has  been 2 weeks since the start of 2017-18 NHL season!
Right off the bat, Vegas Golden Knights have made a very big impression and start right out of the gates!
OCT 6: 2-1 Win against Dallas Stars
OCT 7: 2-1 win against Arizona Coyotes
OCT 10: 5-2 win against Arizona Coyotes
OCT 15: 3-1 win against Boston Bruins
*1 loss against Detroit Red wings.

Looking very good for their NHL debut! Fleury has been great in net and Neal also on fire! Would have never thought, in their 1st year joining the NHL, they would do this well! But, then again, we got to see if they are consistent throughout this season!

You all, already know I am a huge Roberto Luongo fan and a fan of Florida Panthers. On Thurs, Oct 12, Luongo was in net for the Panthers and went on to beat the St Louis Blues, 5-2!!!!!

https://www.nhl.com/video/embed/recap-stl-2-fla-5/t-290862324/c-53444903?autostart=false

Which gives Roberto Luongo his 454th career win, and tying with Curtis Joseph for 4th all-time wins!!! Made 37 saves that night and received 2nd star of the night!

Chicago Blackhawks has been doing well, but then again, what else is knew?

More surprising, Ottawa Senators has been doing very well to start of their season, with 3 straight wins. 3-2 OT against Canucks, 6-0 win against Flames and 6-1 win against Oilers.

I have a feeling that the Vegas Gold Knights will be making it to the playoffs this season, their 1st season as well!

I really hope that the Florida Panthers make it to the playoffs as well, it is still my biggest dream to see Roberto Luongo win just 1 Stanley Cup before he retires!

Who else is excited to see how this season will turn out?!

Self Respect & Self Worth

Never forget your self worth. Never lose your self respect to please anybody.

No matter how where you go, no matter how old you get, you’ll always cross paths with shitty guys. But there are different types of shitty guys:

  • Player / F***boy
The players/f***boy’s are not that hard to detect. Typically, they are very charming, good at sweet talk, A++ at flirting. -Mind you, not all guys who are charming and sweet are players or f***boys-. They are all talk but no action. They’ll feed you everything you want to hear, they know exactly what girls want to hear. For example: saying you’re beautiful, you’re not like any other girl, saying that you’re perfect just the way you are – BUT you just met him. Rule of thumb to remember: anything he says, make sure to watch for his behavior and actions, if it doesn’t match the sweet words coming out of his mouth = player/f***boy. Typically, they will want to meet you/take you out on a date ASAP., prior to properly getting to know you. They will usually suggest “grabbing drinks” or meeting at a pub/bar as the first date/meeting. And will suggest late evening as the time to meet. (i.e. past 6/7pm). If you reply back saying either that, you don’t drink, or the time is too late for you and he doesn’t counter back asking what you would prefer and instead replies back anything along the lines of: “oh that’s too bad.” = player/f***boy.
  • Manipulator
The manipulator can be a bit tricky to spot but not impossible. Typical signs include; playing the victim card, making you feel sorry for them, making you feel guilty/bad like you did or said something wrong, – pretty much tugging at your heart strings and playing with your emotions/sensitive side/sympathy.  It’s a red flag especially if he pulls this move too early on. Of course if you have been seeing the guy for awhile and he is opening up to you, that is different.
Watch out for him making this move right when you meet him.
    Ex. “I haven’t had sex in 3 months..”  (seriously…)
  • The One Full of Bullshit
By full of bullshit means, he talks a big game but doesn’t have any proof to back it up. He’s either full of lies, full of excuses, full of empty promises, and just full of himself.

They don’t deserve your time, your energy or even you telling them to take a hike. The minute I spot a player/f***boy, I don’t even bother continuing the conversation or even giving the satisfaction of me telling them off. I just “unmatch” or block & delete their number and on all social media platforms. The manipulators are kind of my favourite, because I can’t help but to laugh hysterically at them thinking that a shady move like that would work on me. They are also my favourites because I love calling them and their game plan out. Followed with; “unmatch” or block & delete. The one full of bullshit, if you do your proper background checks on them, you’ll know what is truth prior to him trying to tell you lies or exaggerate the truth, turning it into a lie. I typically give this type of guys 3 shots to tell the truth or to follow through with his words. Then he’s OUT.

To some, this may be perceived as harsh or too cut throat. I’ve been through way too many bad experiences with shitty guys, that I just got to the point where I said “Enough is enough.” I learned all the red flags and early signs, I know my self worth, and I have enough self respect to not waste my time or energy with any type of shitty guys listed above.

Never give somebody excuses for their bad behavior/treatment towards you. You deserve better then any of those guys and that type of treatment.

Interview: Tips & Advice

You have just received a call from the company you have applied to, for an interview.

Preparation:

  • Do your research. Look up the company on the internet and learn what they are all about. (It will impress them when you show your knowledge on their company because that shows how much you want the job and how dedicated you are already). Re-read the job description and duties that you have applied for. This way, when they ask you questions, you’ll be able to answer the question better by knowing what the position you’re applying for entails.
  • Documents: copy of your resume, list of references and any supporting documents (i.e. certificates, etc) all in a blue or black folder.
  • Your look: (Females) – nails cut short, no nail polish or nude/clear nail polish, hair tied up in a mid ponytail, very minimum make up (no fake lashes, no eye shadow, no bright lipstick, no extreme contouring) Foundation, little bit of blush, light lip gloss, mascara/eyeliner is sufficient. Flat shoes over high heels, dress pants and a blazer over dress/skirt. No perfume. Dress to impress.
    11112940_mwhite-collar-women-business-attire-2014-fashionable-ladies-business-suits-women-business-suits-formal-office-suits.jpg

(Male)- clean cut hair & beard (preferably clean shaven), no cologne, dress shirt with dress pants, dress shoes, and briefcase.

  • Show up 10 minutes prior to interview time. Being punctual and a little bit early is a lot better then being right on time.
  • Be confident, head held high, straight posture, smile, make good eye contact and speak with confident as well.
  • Try to avoid saying: uhm, mhmm, uh, so, well, like, etc
  • It’s a good idea to write down the typical and potential interview questions you may get thrown at and prepare your answers. Typical questions to expect: “What are your strengths & weakness?” / “Why are you interested in this position / working for our company?” / “Tell us about yourself?” / “Why did you leave your previous job / why are you looking to leave your current job?”
Ultimate Guide to Job Interview Answers!
  • When shaking their hand, do not grip to hard or too softly. Firm grip shows your confidence but as well do not be aggressive.

I highly recommend having your interview outfit prepared the day before, and looking up where the location of the interview is, and planning your trip to get there. For example; your interview is tomorrow at 11am, you look up on google map and it tells you that it’ll take you approximately 30mins to get there (remember this is approximate time, consider traffic and accidents that can occur), you know it will take you 30-45mins to get ready. So, get up at 9am and get ready, leave the home at 10am and should arrive by 10:30am-10:45am which will give you the 15mins or so buffer time to stop by a bathroom to make sure you look presentable and arrive 10mins prior to 11am.

Killer Interview Secrets!

Do not ask about pay during the interview. Wait until they ask “what are you looking for, salary wise?”. And answering this question is tricky, depending on the position you’re applying for, you don’t want to give a high number because that will make you look greedy. It is always better to low ball it and let the employer give you the appropriate amount. You do not want them to think you care more about the pay then the job and their company. TIP: most job postings will tell you the pay rate, if not, you can google it and see if the internet has information on at least the approximate pay for that type of job position.

You Are Not Alone!

There are many lessons I have learned from every bad sìtuatiom I had to go through. I want to pass this on to everyone.

Everybody has been through difficult times and hard times. So, to anybody that is in a current state of feeling stuck, hopeless or depressed, please read on.

Since I was a little girl, I grew up having a lot of pressure to be perfect. Pressure came from church people because I was the pastor’s daughter, and from peers (friends, classmates, etc). If I ever made a mistake, I got scrutinized heavily. I got bullied badly from guys from grade 6 until grade 11 for not being pretty and skinny. I wasn’t over weight or ugly but that’s what they saw me as. I had people betray me, and back stab me. These people were ones I either considered friends/ best friends to peers that I was nothing but kind to.

That’s just a brief summary of what i went through for years. It resulted in anorexia, bulimia, severe depression, suicidal thoughts, 2 suicide attempts, self harm, trust issues, 0 self confidence & self esteem. I would go to the bathroom in the dark so I couldn’t see my reflection in the mirror and if I did I would break down and cry. I used to hate myself every time I made a mistake. Tried so hard to be perfect. I had such bad anxiety, I didn’t leave my home for a whole year.

Until one day I got tired of feeling this way and wanted to do something about it. I didn’t seek a therapist or a counsellor. I became my own therapist. Everyday I would read motivational quotes and bible verses. Not just read them but believe them. I learned to love myself, every part of me, including my quirks and flaws. I decided; instead of trying to fit in, I’ll stand out. It wasn’t easy, it didn’t happen over night. In over a course of 5+ years; I built back up my self confidence and self esteem, I learned how to truly and fully love myself and to stop seeking validation from others.

What did I learn?

  • Everywhere you go, you’ll cross paths with mean, vindictive and petty people. They’ll be nice to you but behind your back, trying to screw you over. I never understood these types of people, but unfortunately they exist. Never allow them to rob your inner peace and happiness. Never stoop down to their level and try to get back at them. Be kind, polite but keep your distance from them.
  • There will always be haters. They don’t hate you because you did wrong to them, but it’s a self reflection of how they feel about themselves. Bitter and hates anybody around them that are happy or has more then them. Don’t let them get to you. It’s not easy but best thing to do is ignore their hateful behaviours and words.
  • There will always be somebody better looking then You, smarter then you, or who has something you want. Never compare yourself or your life to somebody else’s. The grass is not greener on the other side. What you see or perceive as is never always the full truth. Focus on you and the people in your life that support you.
  • It’s okay to have low moments in life. But remember, life keeps moving forward, there is no pause button. So, if currently you’re feeling down or unsatisfied with your current situation, doesn’t mean it’ll forever stay that way. But, you have to use that as your motivation to make a change.
  • You deserve to be happy.
  • You are beautiful. No matter what people or society tells you, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.
  • You’re perfect just the way you are because you’re original, unique and one of a kind.
  • It’s okay to feel like an orange surrounded by a bunch of apples. Just own your orange-ness. (LOL)

I can’t tell you that life will get easier but I can tell you that you can get stronger from  each shitty situation or experiences that life throws at you.

Don’t be afraid to go chase your dreams, and to go after what you want. Don’t let haters and mean people get in your way.

I’m here if you need someone to vent to. I’m here if you need a friend. I am here if you need someone to give you that motivational pep talk every time you have bad days.

Most importantly, I understand & I care.

Shoot me a message through my contact form if you life or leave a comment below.

6 Minutes to Success!

Why Roberto Luongo?

Who is my favourite NHL hockey player?

Roberto Luongo.

You’re probably wanting to know, why Roberto Luongo? It’s not a typical answer, the usual picks are; Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Alex Ovechkin, Tyler Seguin, etc. (All really great players).

Why Luongo is my favourite player:

  1. He may not be statistically the best goaltender in the league. But he’s incredibly entertaining to watch, he engages everybody watching. He even has his own cheer: LUUUUUUU. He is probably one of the best goalie at making glove hand saves by far!
  2. He has won 2 Olympic gold medals for Canada in 2010 and 2014. To me, the hardest trophy to win is the Olympic gold medal over the Stanley Cup. Not just any NHL player can play in the Olympics, you have to be chosen by your country to represent them. And you’re playing against the best players in the NHL
  3. He may have not won a Stanley Cup and may not get to win one before he retires. But he is one the biggest reason to Vancouver Canucks being able to not just win a President Trophy but to beat Chicago Blackhawks (the team that was given the Canucks the hardest time in the playoffs) and take the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011. Didn’t win, but it’s the amount of effort and heart he put into that playoff run, especially Game 7 in the finals against Boston Bruins.
  4. He’ll be automatically entered in the Hockey Hall of Fame after he retires (without winning a Cup). Most goalies (and players) that are in the Hockey Hall of Fame currently have at least won a Stanley Cup once.
  5. He got traded off the Canucks to the Florida Panthers 3 years ago. At that time, the Panthers were a struggling team in the Eastern Conference. In matter of 2 seasons, Luongo (who was the biggest contributor) helped elevate the team, and took the Panthers to the playoffs, for the first time in over 5-10 years.
  6. He’s a great role model for life in general. The way he handles hockey fans and commentators always criticizing him for goals he lets in, for bad games he may have, and just for not being perfect. (It is because he was the highest paid goalie in the league, people had higher expectations out of him compared to other goalies.) Which I think, that is ridiculous, he’s still a human being like every other goalie not a robot. He never stopped trying and striving. And over the years I watched him develop, evolve and better his game/style of play. He makes fun of himself, makes jokes. Especially on Twitter @strombone. It is a great way to handle hate and haters.
  7. He always had great relationships with his back up goalies. He never looks at his back up goalies as competition but as a friend and someone to mentor. Majority of the starter goalies see their back up as competition, and prefers to not get close with them. At the end of the day, the back up goalie is there to fill in for the nights off and games when starter cannot play in. Then eventually of course, back up is going to become the new starter once the starter goalie hits that age where they are just not physically able to play as many games anymore.
  8. He has never disappointed a fan, including me! He interacts with fans on social media but also in real life. Even if he is busy or doesn’t have a lot of time to stop and interact with fans, he will still make that small bit of time because he knows it means everything to us, the fans. I’ve met a lot of NHL players, mostly because I used to work at Rogers Arena. Many are very friendly but there are those that think they are too good to even talk to you, acknowledge you and if they are not in the mood, won’t sign your jersey or take a picture with you (which only takes like 30 secs).
  9. He stuck with the Vancouver Canucks for 8 years, until they decided to trade him. He put up with so much from Vancouver fans. Vancouver is very passionate about hockey and are the harshest on the goaltenders. They blamed him for every game the team lost, but never credited him for when the team did win. They credited only the players that scored. Hockey, is a team sport, the loss is not to blame on one player only. Through it all, he made light of the situation, made jokes, and shrugged them off.
  10. He may have not won a Stanley Cup, but he has other accomplishments; winning the Jennings award 2011, 2 Olympic gold medals, 2 President Trophies, being the highest paid goalie (until Henrik Lundqvist’s contract), and attended 8 NHL All Star games. He is ranked in top 5 goalies with the most career wins. Has been nominated for the Vezina many times, but lost them to Martin Brodeur.

I look up to Roberto Luongo, his attitude towards the situation he got put under is very admirable. He is a great role model to any young goalies out there. He’s also the person that taught me how to handle haters and bullying. How to handle people scrutinizing me for not being perfect or for making mistakes. His drive to keep on trying even when everybody was telling him “you’ll never win a Stanley Cup”, didn’t listen and stay the same. He always strives to be better and minimize his flaws. He never gave up, and still hasn’t.

Get That Job!

20170925_233634.jpg

Is there a job you saw posted online that you really want?
Thinking to yourself; “I’m not qualified. Not experiences enough. I shouldn’t even bother applying.”?

Let me be the first to tell you: You CAN Get That Job!

“You miss every opportunity that you don’t take.”

(Story Time!)
I never went to college or university, mostly because I didn’t know what I wanted to study or do as a career. So, right after graduating high school, I just started working in the meanwhile and thought I’ll figure it out along the way. As I was working different jobs, I figured out what I like and didn’t like with each position and what I’m good at and not good at. I went from working at McDonalds (first job at 16 years old) to working part time as a cashier at Michaels to barista at a coffee shop, etc. And now, working full time at the best University in BC. How?
1) I knew what my strengths are, what I excel at, what I enjoy doing, and my potential.
2) I applied for job postings I saw online that I wanted or that interested me because it was a step up from my current job and I wanted to challenge myself but also grow as a person and worker.

Out of all the jobs I have applied for, more then 80% have called me to come in for an interview. And out of all those interviews only 1 turned me down and went with somebody else, the rest have hired me. Why?
1) My resume.
2) Interview skills.

I have had a lot of friends and colleagues that have asked me to review their resume and make edits for them. Another frequent question they always ask is: “Where do you find these job postings?”
1) Job postings are everywhere; Indeed, Craiglist, LinkedIn, and on company websites. For example, you want to work in a retail store selling clothes. Instead of just looking on the basic job posting sites, look up the website of your favourite retail store or the retail store you would like to work for and if you look at the bottom of the home page  (or sometimes at the top), you’ll find: Career button. (Majority of companies have a Career button on their website.)
Capture

2) Cover Letter and Resume writing.
Not all places will ask for a cover letter, most of the time they are optional. I choose to just submit my resume because I want my resume to speak for itself. From reviewing friends and colleagues resumes, I noticed a very common thing with all of them. It’s either too fancy or not easy to follow through from top to bottom. When I say too fancy, what I mean is: fonts are different colours, the usage of fancy fonts, resume page has decorations of some sorts on it, and it looks more like a poster advertisement then a resume. I created a template that follows what my resume looks like. As well, made notes at the bottom with tips and advice on creating a resume that stands out in the right kind of way: “I want to meet this person for an interview.” Resume Template
(Cover Letter Template that I follow and have used when it is required: Cover Letter Template )

Next Week: I will be covering topic of interview prep and skills. (Your resume can be impressive but more importantly, you have to be impressive & memorable)

Likes and Comments are greatly appreciated! ^_^
